First and foremost, thank you for all the prayers being lifted up for Matt. They mean more than you know.
Second, how did we get here? On Tuesday night, Matt showed us a spot on his elbow that was like a boil with a red rash going up towards his armpits. Wednesday I made an appointment to see the doctor....me thinking it might be a spider bite or something that we would get antibiotic for and be done. Well in the process of looking Matt over there with other rashes, red pin prick looking spots. So off we go to get a blood test. Thursday at work I get a call at 4 PM from the dr. instructing me to get Matt to ER asap that they were expecting us and he had already called for Dr. Kocs to meet us there. Why I ask, and then all I heard was they have found leukemia. We were at ER by 4:30, which involved tons more blood test for everything....trying to confirm leukemia and the kind. We stayed overnight to prepare for a bone marrow extraction for this morning, Friday.
By 6 PM tonight we got the preliminary results, that confirmed it was leukemia and it was AML - Acute Myeloid. We are now waiting until Monday to see what strand of AML to let us know the course of action.
8 PM tonight Matt started his first dose of chemo pills, which will be given 3x a day until a different plan in place on Monday for chemo. We were told to expect to be here for the next 2-3 weeks depending.
10 PM tonight Matt get to port thing put in. So that will make the taking of blood daily and the administering of chemo easier.
I’ll be reading up more tonight at http://www.cancer.org/cancer/leukemia-acutemyeloidaml/index.
I will try to post daily updates to keep you informed.
Again thank you for the kind thoughts and prayers that have been lifted up for Matt.
